When you draw near to Jesus and listen to the truth of his Word, he deposits something into the very core of who you are that can’t be taken away.

This is truth we need to hear. We need to know that what Christ has given to us becomes a part of us, but we have to draw near to Him to access it.

The answer to the question Who am I? isn’t bound up in you at all; it’s a treasure buried within the heart of your Father.

As women, we are always wrestling with our identity. This is a reminder that it’s not about us, not in a mean-spirited way, but in a “you can find your identity in God” kind of way.

These passages tell the same story. God chose us in him before the world was formed. He purposed for us to be holy and blameless. He adopted us into his covenant family. He made this possible through Christ. He not only chose us, but he planned it beforehand. We weren’t an afterthought.

This is the message: God has a plan for us. We are not unwanted. We are loved and chosen by an awesome God. One who knows everything about us and loved us anyway. As Tauren Wells sings: “We’re fully known and loved by [God]”.

Humility isn’t prized today any more than it was two thousand years ago. What is prized is anything and everything associated with self. Don’t expect applause when you walk in humility.

Running the race that Christ has set before us will not make us popular. The world hated Him long before we existed. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can stop expecting the world to accept us.

The armor you wear is not your armor at all. It’s called the armor of God because it’s his armor. You don’t earn the armor. You don’t create the armor. It’s God’s own armor. Guess what. You and I are already clothed in it because we are in Christ.

This puts the “armor of God” into new light for me. It actually takes some of the pressure off – because it’s not my armor, I have confidence that it will work.

The devil doesn’t want us moving on to maturity. He especially doesn’t want us imitating God in any way, shape, or form. He wants us to remain ignorant of who we are in Christ. He will do everything he can to distract us from the truth of being God’s daughter.

Our enemy is not some cartoon character lurking in dark alleys. He is an intelligent being that has had thousands of years to observe mankind. He knows our weaknesses, he know our strengths. He knows, better than we do, the power that we have in Christ. That’s why he doesn’t want us grabbing hold of truth. He wants us believing every lying word he tells us. He doesn’t want us to focus on Jesus and find our strength in Him.
