OBS Review: Wisdom Whispers Bible Study

Being smart doesn’t make you wise. Even the smartest person on earth will make mistakes.  Wisdom Whispers is an introspective look at the life of King Solomon.

Although Solomon is known as the wisest man who ever lived, he didn’t always make wise choices. That should give us some hope when we feel we are the only ones who make mistakes.

Wisdom Whispers by Sarah Koontz - a free 31 day online Bible study

What Is Wisdom?

According to the Oxford Dictionary, wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise.

In other words, wisdom is what happens when the things we know and the experiences we have to help us to make good “common sense” choices. But as we all know common sense isn’t really as common as it ought to be.

Why Do We Need Wisdom?

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him (James 1:5). Maybe that’s why Solomon chose wisdom out of all the things he could have when given the choice.

Wisdom Whispers is the newest free Bible study by Sarah Koontz. The 31-day study was first offered on April 2 and is now available on-demand. The Wisdom Whispers Bible study takes us through the life of Solomon the Not-So-Wise Wise Man.

We get an intimate look at the things he did well and the things he did not so well… and the theme that resounds is that wisdom whispers it doesn’t shout.

The Wisdom Whispers bible study requires a 15-minute commitment each day and follows a 5 days on 2 days off cycle. There’s even the bonus of having the study read to you with the free downloadable audio that comes with it.

Can you imagine life if we were unable to reason or make choices based on information that we have access to?

Think about it: two dishes are put before you but they are covered and you’re required to choose one but are not able to even look at the dish – what do you choose?

What if one of them contains something that you don’t eat?

Or something that you’re allergic to? How will you know? Here’s an even worse scenario: what if you were unable to remember the foods that you were allergic to but still had to make a choice? Scary isn’t it?

That’s why wisdom is so important. That’s also why I love the Wisdom Whispers study: we all know that Solomon made unwise choices but how many of us ever looked at his life chronologically?

That’s what this character study does – it walks us through all the books that reference Solomon: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, II Samuel, I Kings, I and II Chronicles, Deuteronomy, Song of Solomon and Psalms. (Okay so Solomon wasn’t actually in the book of Deuteronomy but there is some valuable information there that sheds light on some of his choices. I’m not going to tell you what because I don’t want to spoil it for you.

Here Are My Seven Biggest Take-Aways

7 Lessons I Learned from Wisdom Whispers Bible Study - The free 31-day character study of King Solomon.

I had the privilege of being a part of Sarah’s launch team for this study. There were so many lessons that I learned from Wisdom Whispers but here are my top seven things:

1. Disobedience leads to discipline. God gives us clear instructions on what he expects. As long as we are obedient there will be no reason for him to discipline us.

2. Knowing a lot of things doesn’t make us wise. Unless we apply the things we know to our life and our circumstances, head knowledge means nothing.

3. The pursuit of pleasure will lead us away from God because we can’t be sold out for Jesus when we’re busy chasing after the world.

4. Our choices matter. Even a seemingly simple decision can have long-reaching effects.

5. God knows the heart of man intimately. That is why he can tell us the consequences of our decisions before we even make them.

6. Even knowing us God loves us anyway. Though he knows what we’re going to do he gives us the blessings and the chance to make our freewill choice.

7. When we mess us God continues to show mercy for a long time after. He gives us many, many opportunities to repent and be obedient before disciplines.

I had the privilege of being a part of the Wisdom Whispers launch team and fully recommend this study to anyone who wants to learn more about the life of Solomon or how to make wise choices.

Wisdom Whispers is also a good study for someone who’s looking for a little more oomph in their personal devotion time.
