4 Simple Steps to Rediscover God’s Faithfulness

Rediscover God's faithfulness

God’s faithfulness is an intricate nature of His character. Humanity has proven many times through history that we are not faithful. We will disobey God. We will do things we know are not right. Thank God He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve. Lamentations 3 22-24 is a great reminder of God’s faithfulness. Let’s explore ways we can remember His faithfulness to us.

The Characteristics of God’s Faithfulness

If we are going to truly appreciate the faithfulness of God, we need to understand what it means. So let’s spend a little time really digging into this attribute of the Father.

If you’re looking for evidence of God’s faithfulness, all you need is a deep inhale. There are so many miracles that occur in a single breath. A scientist would be able to tell you about the chemical process involved in transforming oxygen molecules into energy–a process that just happens to create carbon dioxide which is used by plants to create energy and life.

But I’m not a scientist, so I’ll just say a breath is evidence of life. As long as you are inhaling and exhaling on your own, it means you’re alive. Life may not be how you want it to be, but you’ve still been given a gift from the Creator of all things.

Let’s spend a little time unwrapping the ways God shows His faithfulness to us by looking at what the Bible has to say about the faithfulness of God.

Bible Verses About God’s Faithfulness

It shouldn’t surprise you that God has a lot to say about faithfulness. There are so many verses in the Bible that talk about the faithfulness of God that if I were to list them all, this blog post would go on forever (at least, it would feel that way). So let’s just look at a few key verses and what they say about His faithfulness.

Faithfulness an attribute of God.

Even if we were to break every promise we ever made to Him (and we have), God would still keep His promises to us.

If we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself (2 Timothy 2:13 ESV).

What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? By no means! Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written, “That you may be justified in your words, and prevail when you are judged” (Romans 3:3-4 ESV).

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Psalm 86:15 ESV).

Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast (Psalm 119:90 ESV).

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8 ESV).

God’s faithfulness is evident in His treatment of us.

We are not faithful, but because He is, we can claim His promises.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV).

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds (Psalm 36:5 ESV).

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (James 1:17 ESV).

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 ESV).

God’s faithfulness acts as a shield.

He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler (Psalm 91:4 ESV).

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance (2 Peter 3:9 ESV).

The Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you (Jeremiah 31:3 ESV).

As you study the character of God, you can’t help but marvel “Great is His faithfulness”. God never changes. If He says He’s going to do something, He does it. He keeps His word even when we don’t keep ours. His word can be trusted because He cannot lie (Numbers 23:19).

Great is His Faithfulness

God has never made a promise that He has not kept. He is faithful to His words and to us–even when we don’t deserve it.  God remains faithful even when we push Him away or when we disobey Him and have to be punished. Great is His faithfulness.

What comes to mind when you think about the faithfulness of God?

Personal Bible Study

The prophet Jeremiah wrote a lot about the faithfulness of God. But even when he had to deliver bad news to the people of Israel, there was an undercurrent of hope in his message.

Read Jeremiah 29, the message of hope is clear even though the children of Israel had been carried away from their inheritance.

Reflect on your life. Do you see where the mercies of God are renewed each day in spite of your actions?

Pray and thank God for being faithful.
