What would life be like for you if you could live free from fear? How would you approach things differently? Imagine it for a second: there’s a full-grown lion in your yard where your son is playing, but you’re not scared. Your toddler crawls over to the hedge and puts her hand in a nest of cobras, but nothing happens. Does that seem too good to be true?

This is the world God promised in Isaiah 11:6-8, a world where animals live in peace and we coexist with them. The children of God have a whole new world to look forward to. One where there is no terrorism, poverty or crime. Nobody dies so there’s no mourning. No one gets sad, so there are no tears. This world is a free gift for all of us, but there’s only one way to get it.

Freedom through Christ

Jesus told His disciples in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

In order for us to get access to this sinless, fear-free world, we have to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Accepting Jesus as Lord is accepting Him as Sovereign. It’s a commitment we make to give Him dominance in every area of our lives. It’s not about saying “Jesus, I love You but I’m gonna do what I wanna do.”

No. Habits will change. Friendships will evolve – some will get deeper, some will dissolve. When we choose Christ, we have to choose Him over everything else every day and every moment of our lives.

Fear-Free on Earth

In the meantime, we get a sneak peek of living fear-free while we’re here on this earth. Jesus gives us a number of invitations to sample the joy that He gives.

He invites us to rest from our labor and burdens

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls (Matthew 11:28-29 NKJV).

He offers us peace

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! (Isaiah 26:3  NKJV)

He wants a connection with us

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.  If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples (John 15:4-8 NKJV).

Jesus invites us to experience love

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. (John 15:9 NKJV)

As we accept the invitations of our Heavenly Father through His Son Jesus Christ, we experience freedom from fear. It doesn’t mean bad things won’t happen. But, because we trust God, we know that whatever happens can be used for our good in Jesus’ name.

Challenge: What fear would you most want to be free from right now? Pray and ask God for freedom for your fear.
