Waiting on a ‘Crazy Faith’ Promise
Table of Contents
I thought I knew desperate until I got to know desperate:
- Boxing up the last two little pieces of chicken and bread
- Staring at my excel of 100+ applications I’ve sent on Linkedin
- 2.5 hour commutes to save money on a train ticket from Yonkers to Manhattan
- Getting a bitter tea at Burger King just so I can have somewhere warm inside to sit as I wait for the bus to arrive in an hour
- Running around in NYC with a huge purse full of chargers, make-up, changes of clothing, etc.
- Frequenting whole foods, Starbucks, and petit de manger shops for charging outlets since you don’t have a home/office to re-charge your phone at
The sad part is, it’s only been two weeks of this organized chaos and sometimes I can already feel myself losing momentum.
The weird part is, I wouldn’t trade this crazy adventurous waiting season I’m in for the 8 am-6 pm comfort that I was living in the last time I lived in NYC.
Enjoy Your Waiting Season
Because in becoming so desperate, I am experiencing God in such new ways and breaking new grounds in my relationship with Him:
- I get to be a witness to the friend(s) I’m staying with
- I get to take strolls in Central Park and go to the library on weekdays while everyone else is at work
- I get to see God show up and provide my every need (and beyond that) in miraculous ways
- I get to see my faith strengthened as He guides me to a new level of trusting Him and His promise for my life.
And this rejoicing, lifting my hands, and praising Him even in the valleys has become my weapon, my contentment, and a source of hope as I wait for Him to fulfill the promise. For I know the victory is already mine (1 Corinthians 15:57) it’s just the timing that I struggle with.
But as it goes…
5 Ways to Maintain Your Sanity in Your Season of Waiting
If you’re in a season of waiting, you may feel as though you’re going to lose your mind before God gets done doing His thing. Here are five ways you can maintain your sanity while you wait on God:
1. Keep your Crown
Do not cast away your confidence, for it has great reward (Hebrews 10:35 CSB).
Check out these 5 ways you can maintain your sanity while you wait on God in your season of waiting. #waitonGod #hebrews12endurance Click To Tweet“Blessed are those who endure when they are tested. When they pass the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him” (James 1:12 GW).
And as I continue to endure through the highs and lows of this wait, God has shown me what I need to do to make the most of this season:
Identity, identity, identity! This is a game-changer, my friends. During your waiting season, you will feel more desperate, vulnerable, and uncomfortable than ever before.
It will get hard keeping your crown from falling when everything seems to be slipping out of your control. For this reason, it is essential that you self-affirm daily by confessing the verse(s) that God spoke about you:
She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future (Proverbs 31:25 NLT).You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows (Psalm 23:5 NIV).Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield (Psalm 5:12 NIV).The Lord will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail (Isaiah 58:11 NIV).Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one (Colossians 4:6 NKJV).
2. Draw near to God by honoring Him with your time
Come near to God and he will come near to you (James 4:8 NIV).
It is essential to keep your heart focused on God (Psalm 37:4, Matthew 6:33, Proverbs 4:25) so that you can discern His voice, His instructions, His comfort, and shut down anything aside from it.
There are so many ways you can draw nearer to God in your waiting season:
- Put your phone on airplane mode and give God your first 30 minutes of the day
- Read the daily Psalms or Proverbs
- Start a devotional online
- Go on a walk and listen to 30 minutes of worship
- Lock your door and bow down in prayer
These are just a few examples of how you can draw closer to God in your waiting season, but you’ll be so glad you did.
3. Cultivate an Attitude of Expectancy
When you go out into the world, be expectant. Smile, keep your head up, focus on all the things going right for you, and expect that good things are going to happen.
You never know when and whom God will bring into your life to help/inspire you so don’t miss the opportunity when it’s presented!
4. Get Connected to Community
Get watered. Get connected. Get anchored in a community! The people you choose to spend your precious time with this season will either water or dry you out. A community with sisters in the faith is a great place to water and be watered!
5. Don’t Be Idle
“Champions are just beginning where most people quit” Pastor Roberts
I can speak volumes on this regarding my experience, but Pastor Roberts does it so much better in his series on “Consistency”:
What are you doing in your season of waiting? I hope you found some helpful tips in Grace’s story.
