12 Christian Faith Books to Add to Your Bookshelf

12 Christian faith books recommendations

Are there any good Christian faith books? As someone who has been reading since before I could read, this is a question I’ve pondered. I love books. They give us a way to have adventures that we couldn’t otherwise have. They allow us to learn from the experience and wisdom of others. They teach us new things about ourselves and the world we live in.

As a Christian woman, I quickly learned there were many more books and many of them had good, strong lessons.

These are some of the Christian faith books I read during the year 2018 and some of the lessons I learned. I also invited some of my blogger friends to share their favorite Christian faith books. They shared books that impacted their faith in 2018. I hope you’ll be able to read some of these books and that they will increase your knowledge of God, or help you know yourself and run your race.

2018 in Christian Faith Books

The Christian faith books mentioned in this post will be divided into three categories:

  1. Books to help you know God–these books will point you to study and know God’s character.
  2. Books to help you know yourself–introspective thinking while pointing us to a study of God’s character. Because remember, we can’t really know who we are unless we know who God is.
  3. Books that help you run your race and be yourself. These books encourage you to stop looking at what other people are doing and be the person God created you to be.

Without any more chatter, here are the Christian faith books in no particular order.

Being Confident of This by Jen Stults

Our entire perception of God changes as we carry it through the trials in our lives. We may feel like we have a crisis of faith because everything we thought about God is challenged in this situation we’re in.

Therefore I Have Hope: 12 Truths That Comfort, Sustain, And Redeem In Tragedy By Cameron Cole

When we do things we need to remember that it doesn’t change the character of God. It is not a reflection on His greatness. God is good. Full stop. Too often we try to do things in our own strength. We have to ask for help. More so, we need to ask God for help. Time should be spent in the good times and not so bad time studying God’s words so that if our worst happens we can stand on God’s words.

In His Image by Jen Wilkin

Agape is the word Jesus uses to teach his disciples about those who hate them: for he is ungrateful and evil. ”(Luke 6:35)

This concept gave me a moment or pause. If I am to love my enemies in an agape child of way, then I am to love them in a way that does not make sense. It’s a love that goes at all costs and has no boundaries. At the same time, that’s the love that someone who gets me their enemy ought to have for me.

When Sinners Say I Do by Dave Harvey

“We must go back and ask,” What is the purpose of mercy? “Do I extend mercy to get a response? Are results the point? Not of results (v. 35) Jesus never promises to change our enemies (the extreme case that encompasses all cases) What he has in view for us is a loving relationship with our Father in heaven who will ever eclipse any hateful or hurtful actions against us. ”

Enough: Silencing the Lies That Steal Your Confidence by Sharon Jaynes

As women, we start collecting and believing a number of lies about ourselves. Worthless. Unloved. Ugly. Stupid. Unacceptable. Unforgivable. Dirty. Unhappy. Failure. Not good enough. Positive self-affirmations are often enough to reprogram the hateful things we say to ourselves. We should instead employ a three-part strategy for breaking the power that lies over us.

  • Recognize the lie
  • Reject the lie
  • Replace the lie with the truth

Once we learn that we can start walking boldly in the identity that Christ has created for each of His children.

Woman Living Well by Courtney Joseph

This book literally transformed my life. I adapted several of Courtney’s plans and ideas. I especially loved her prayer walk through the house. Every morning I try to prayer walk my house. As I make my kids beds I pray for them. As I make our bed I pray for my husband’s day, but I also pray for the Lord to show me how I can be a better helpmate for him. As I walk down the stairs, I pray and thank God for my house. I thank him for my dirty dishes because we have food to eat.

I thank Him for piles of laundry that means we have clothes to wear. I continue to walk through my house and thank Him for every little thing that I think of. I love the way it feels like I bring Him into my house and He showers it with peace and joy. I also took from her the idea of lighting a candle every day in the kitchen and praying for peace and love to surround your house and everyone who enters. I can really tell the difference when I take the time to show gratitude and pray for my home and family. It just makes the day align with God and His will. I recommend this book to all my friends.

This book challenged me to see the entire picture. When I’m tempted to think the worst, I need to remember to ask God to help me see things through his eyes. God’s spirit will always lead me to the truth. And with the truth fresh in my mind I’ll be able to start translating things from a life-giving, truth-seeking perspective.
