Call On God

Call On God

God wants His people to call on Him. Throughout the ages, He has extended the invitation time and again. “Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you” (Jeremiah 29:12 NKJV).

Then you will call upon Me

God’s people need to use the resources available to them. One of the most powerful weapons that we have is prayer. When we call on Him, If we ask according to His will, then He will grant us the petition of our hearts (I John 5:14-15).

God wants His people to call on Him. Throughout the ages, He has extended the invitation time and again. Calling on the Lord accomplishes two major things:

  1. It recognizes the fact that we need help
  2. It is our acknowledgment that He’s able to help us.

and come and pray to Me

God invites us to seek His presence. He invites us to have a relationship with Him, to commune with Him. He wants us to come to Him and to serve Him.

When we call on God, mountains move and problems are shifted into perspective.

and I will listen

This, for me, is the best part of the verse. God will listen to us. Did you get that? The King of the universe, the Creator of the whole world and all that’s in it, Elohim, will listen to us. Isn’t that awesome?

We have done absolutely nothing to gain an audience with this great King, yet He’s made time for us.

Let me put it this way: imagine that you wanted to speak to the Prime Minister or President of your country. There were some things happening in your community that you really wanted to bring to their attention.

Your ruler is an extremely busy person and you’re not a delegate or a member of parliament so there’s absolutely no reason why he would speak to you.

You agonize about making the call. You don’t want to look like a fool. You feel silly for even thinking to call this great person. Finally, yes finally, you are able to make the call. You dial the number ready to give his secretary a prepared speech, but –

What’s this? The president answers the phone himself. You stammer out a greeting but before you could tell him who you were or why you were calling, he addresses you by name. “My child,” he adds, “I’m so glad you called. I’ve been longing to speak with you. I’ve cleared my calendar so we can talk as long as you like.”

Isn’t that great? Well, a similar scene is played out every time we call on God. He listens to us. With His whole being. No pretense. No distractions.

We are loved by an awesome and almighty God – a God who meets us in our needs. He has promised never to forsake us and we can believe him because his promises are true.

Calling on God

Personal Bible Study

We are admonished in Colossians 4:2 to “devote ourselves to prayer.” We find such devotion in the story of Daniel. Read Daniel 9:1-27.

Think about how God delivered him and Darius’ response to Daniel’s faithful prayer life.

Write a prayer asking God to strengthen your prayer life.
