What do you do when you’re having a hard day? As Christians, we can find hope in the Lord. Hope is woven through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation as it’s an essential part of our human existence.
Whatever you’re going through in this season, these Bible verses offer hope, encouragement, and strength.
What Does the Bible Say About Hope?
Table of Contents
Biblical hope differs from worldly hope. The hope finds encouragement in material possessions and fallible people. The world’s hope wavers as its source does.
Biblical hope is founded in Christ and in who He is. Jesus is the same today, yesterday, and forever. He never falters or wavers. Even when we’re untrustworthy, God never is.
When we put our faith and trust in God, we can depend on Him to remain steadfast through the most vicious storms.
Encouraging Bible Verses About Hope
Let’s reflect on these five Bible verses about hope, along with their practical application in our lives.
Lamentations 3:24 – Hope in God’s Faithfulness
The book of Lamentations is a poem of weeping for the state of Jerusalem. Things weren’t going right as the people followed idols and turned their backs on God. For years, Jehovah sent His prophets imploring the Israelites to repent and return to Him, warning of the exile that would result if they didn’t.
Yet, even in their disobedience, God remained faithful.
Lamentations 3:24 NKJV — “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!”
Why could the Israelites put their hope in God? Because He loved them and was the source of all their provisions.
It’s the same for us today. Everything we have comes from God, who is the Creator of all things. When we bask in God’s presence, He provides for all our needs.
As Jesus reminded His followers in Matthew 6, God knows our needs. He knows when we’re hungry and the bills are overdue. He asks us to seek a relationship with Him, and He will bless us beyond our wildest imaginings.
Isaiah 40:31 – Renewed Strength Through Hope
Through the prophets, the Lord told the Israelites they would be taken away from their beloved homeland. They would be captives and slaves in a foreign land, but it wouldn’t end there.
One day, the Lord would intervene on their behalf, and they would return to Jerusalem. God would restore everything that had been stolen and strengthen Jerusalem again.
The Book of Revelation talks about the new Jerusalem, accessible to all believers.
In this world, we have trials and tribulations, but Christ has overcome the world.
He will return, and those who remain faithful to Him will receive a renewed strength.
Isaiah 40:31 NLT — But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
My friend, whatever you’re going through this season, take comfort in the hope that God is with you. He has not abandoned you and will restore what the enemy stole. Keep trusting God. Remain steadfast in difficult times.

Romans 15:13 – Hope Through the Power of the Holy Spirit
What emotion do you experience most often? Is it fear? Overwhelm? Resentment? Joy?
Perhaps you rarely consider how you’re feeling, simply moving from one task to the next in automation or a daze.
Sometimes, life has us hopping from one task to another until we’re little more than hamsters on a wheel.
But that’s not God’s ideal for us. No, Je wants us to experience peace, hope, and joy.
Romans 15:13 NIV — May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
An unmistakable, unexplainable peace fills our hearts as we focus on God rather than our needs or problems. Our situation might not change, but our focus has.
Before Jesus left His disciples, He promised to send them the Holy Spirit, who would be their comforter.
The Holy Spirit would teach them and bring things to their remembrance. And not just anything: the things Jesus taught (John 14:26).
Hebrews 11:1 – Faith and Hope Are Connected
One of the greatest concepts in the Bible is faith. It takes faith to believe that Jesus is the Son of God through whom we receive forgiveness of sins and are saved.
It takes faith to believe that God will answer our prayers, and if not, that in His infinite wisdom, He knows what’s best for us.
The Bible contains many promises about what lies in store for those who remain faithful.
Hebrews 11:1 KJV — Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
My friend, God is trustworthy. We can trust and hope in Him, knowing He’ll work things out for our ultimate good, even when we can’t see the outcome.
The beauty of our faith is that, though we can’t predict the future, God can. He knows the end from the beginning, and as long as we hold on to Him, our hope is not in vain.
1 Peter 5:10 – Hope in Suffering and Restoration
It might not seem like it while you’re in the crucible, but your suffering is temporary. God will restore those who trust in Him.
1 Peter 5:10 ESV — And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
My friend, God’s promises are true. And He promised us a reward if we don’t give up.
He has promised to walk with you through the fire and the waters threatening to overcome you.
God will never leave you nor forsake you. You can count on Him to see you through whatever trial or victory you’re going through.
How to Cultivate Hope in Everyday Life
So, how do you hold on to hope when everything is going wrong?
The key is to saturate yourself with God’s Word while removing negative influences.
Here are some simple ways to surround yourself with hope.
- Spend time in prayer.
- Read your Bible.
- Listen to worship music and sermons.
- Spend time with other believers.
- Remove anything that drains you or doesn’t build you up.
The more you fill yourself with the things of God, the more hopeful your outlook will become.
Conclusion
Hope sometimes seems in short supply, especially when life knocks us down. But God has promised to be with us.
I encourage you to meditate on these Bible verses about hope, not only in your valley experiences, but also when you’re having a good day.
When we constantly remind ourselves who God is and what He’s done for us, it’s harder to become discouraged as we experience difficulties.
