6 Traits of a Godly Wife
Today we’re pleased to welcome Madison of www.mrsmadisonweaver.com, author of Becoming One: A 30-Day Devotional for Wives. She’ll be sharing with us some traits of a godly wife.
For some, the Proverbs 31 woman is that scary paragon of womanly virtue, but Madison’s tips bring the traits of wifely wisdom to a place we can all relate to.
Do you consider yourself a godly wife?
I’m sure there are times when you do, and times that you don’t. I know I’m far from perfect, and sometimes I even feel like a failure when it comes to being a wife.
When I read my Bible, pray, and do all the right things, sure I feel like a godly wife. What about when I mess up, though? When I’m at my wit’s end and spout off hurtful words at my husband, when the house is a mess, or when I don’t stick to my Bible study plan, I feel like the farthest thing from a godly wife.
I’m sure you can relate! But I have some good news for you, sweet friend. You DON’T have to be perfect to be a godly wife! You just have to be willing to grow and learn from your experiences. Learn to lean on God and ask Him to help you.
What characteristics does a godly wife have, then? I have a few I’d like to share with you!
Characteristics of a Godly Wife
A godly wife prays for her husband and family
Philippians 4:6: Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks.
She prays for safety over her husband and children, and that the Lord will bless them always. She prays that they will grow in their faith and know how much their Heavenly Father loves them.
She prays that they will continue to bless people that they come in contact with, and they will be a shining light to those in the darkness. She prays for God’s peace to be upon them, and that they will do the work that He has for them to do.
She asks God for Guidance
Proverbs 31:30: Charm is deceptive, and beauty evaporates, but a woman who has the fear of the Lord should be praised.
When there is a problem or situation she does not know how to handle, she goes straight to the Word of God. The Bible is her roadmap, and it is where she gets her encouragement when she is weak.
She loves the Lord with all her heart and makes him a priority above everyone and everything. She worships Him daily and never stops singing His praises even when things get hard.
She puts her husband and family before herself
Philippians 2:3-4: Don’t act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves.
She thinks of her husband and/or children first and always strives to do what is best for them. She thinks of their needs and wants before her own, and always makes sure that they are taken care of.
She works hard
Proverbs 31:17: She puts on strength like a belt and goes to work with energy.
Whatever job she has, she strives to do it well! She strives to make her home a place where her family can relax, worship and be encouraged.
She speaks with grace, kindness, and respect
Proverbs 31: 26: She speaks with wisdom, and on her tongue there is tender instruction.
This is a hard one for me! A godly wife will not let her tongue get the best of her. She will speak kindly to her spouse and family, offering grace and love. This is a big struggle for me, and I’m growing in this area more and more every day!
She pursues her husband and nurtures her marriage
Proverbs 31:11-12: Her husband trusts her with all his heart, and he does not lack anything good. She helps him and never harms him all the days of her life.
She loves her husband with all her heart, and never stops pursuing him. She cherishes her marriage and nurtures it with love daily. She makes her husband a priority, and he trusts her with everything he has. She encourages him and inspires him every single day. Their love for each other never dies.
These are just a few traits that define a godly woman. Although she is not perfect, she gives everything she has in order to bring God glory and ensure her family is safe and loved.
What other characteristics do you define a godly woman by? I would love to hear about it in the comments!
